Designed for those with a professional duty to respond, these courses include First Responder, Advanced First Aid, and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), as well as EMR Scope Updates to keep certifications current and aligned with industry standards.

First Responder

Comprehensive training for those preparing to respond to medical emergencies in a professional or volunteer role.

This course builds the skills needed to assess patients, provide basic life support, control bleeding, and manage a wide range of medical and trauma emergencies. Through hands-on scenarios and real-life simulations, participants gain the confidence to respond effectively in the field.

Duration: ~40 hours
3-year Red Cross Certification
Includes: Patient assessment, airway management, hemorrhage control, and trauma care

This course is commonly taken by volunteer firefighters and those preparing for emergency response roles.

Advanced First Aid

Comprehensive, high-level training for those responsible for providing emergency care in the workplace or during patient transport.

This course builds on foundational first aid skills and develops advanced abilities in patient assessment, interventions, and ongoing care. Participants learn how to manage complex medical and trauma emergencies, support patients over extended periods, and prepare for safe transport to a healthcare facility.

Through hands-on scenarios and real-life simulations, participants gain the confidence to make decisions and provide effective care in high-responsibility environments.

EMR

Professional, career-level training for those responsible for providing patient care in emergency settings.

This course builds the skills needed to assess, intervene, and provide ongoing care to patients at emergency scenes, in the workplace, and during transport to a healthcare facility. Participants develop strong knowledge in patient assessment, airway management, and medical and trauma care through hands-on scenarios and real-life simulations.

EMR represents the highest level of first aid training offered through the Canadian Red Cross and prepares individuals for roles in emergency services, industrial response, and healthcare environments.

​Duration: ~120 hours
Certification: 3-year Red Cross EMR + 1-year BLS
Includes: Patient assessment, airway management, medical & trauma care, and patient transport

This course is required for those pursuing or working in emergency services, industrial response roles, and pre-hospital care environments - Medics, Firefighters, Paramedics
